FROM NOTES OF CARRIE BURNHAM KILGORE My earliest ancestor in this country by the name "Burnham" was Thomas Burnham (Sr.) who came to America by way of the Barbados from Hatfield Court, Herefordshire England, in A.D. 1649 and settled in what is now Hartford Connecticut, My great-grandfather, Benjamin Burnham was his great-grandson. I am informed that the "Burnham coat of arms" is still displayed over Hatfield Court in England. The Kinsman's, the Perkin's, and the Tracy's, all well known families in Massachusetts, and Connecticut. are of my "Burnham" ancestry. Members of these different families were engaged in both the Colonial and Revolutionary Wars. I do not know of their special work or bravery.

1. Thomas BURNHAM, Sr. was born in 1617 in Hatfield Court which is located between Bromyard and Leominster in Herefordshire, England. On 10 Nov 1635, at the age of 18, he sailed from Graveser, England and settled in Hartford, CT
Burnham Family Lineage Charts 1966-68 Burnham Lib. Cong. Catalog no. 66-21927. in 1638. He came to America with two brothers, John and Robert. He was educated and on first coming to this country he practiced law. He was said to have had a very determined character. In emigrating to the colonies he was moved less by religious scruples than by a desire to improve his fortunes. He was a Freeman in 1671 and a Representative in 1681.Thomas of Hartford part 2 1964-71 He married in 1639 to Anna Wright. Anna was born in England 1620 and died 5 Aug 1703 in Hartford CT. He died 24/28 Jun 1688 at Hartford CT, age 71 years.
